Email marketing returns more dollars on your investment than any other marketing strategies when done correctly. Running a successful email marketing campaign takes time, efforts to filter out the non productive components. However, successful marketing managers can show the power of smart email marketing. Remember email marketing is not an alternative for your direct marketing efforts. We can reach targeted email marketing with a well planned and executed email campaign of careful coordination between email and direct marketing.

Take a look at the following questions?

  • Are you spending a lot of money and energy on your marketing efforts?
  • Do you keep a database of your visitors email addresses hoping to make them a paying customer?
  • In order to justify your email marketing efforts, would you say that you check your email marketing goals on a regular basis and generate enough revenue and Return on Investment (ROI)?
  • Do you have a solid plan in place to manage successful email marketing strategy as well as building a great customer relationship in the future?

However, these questions are focused on marketing techniques that is not very well understood by direct marketing people. Creating and running an effective email marketing campaign requires careful planning and we have provided some of the most important aspects of a successful email marketing campaign. May these tips, tricks make it easy and useful for you.

Email Marketing

Get permission

To ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation make sure your email marketing is permission-based which means you need the customer’s consent to contact them. To build up your contacts database, collect email addresses from your customers at every opportunity!

Plan your campaign

What do you want to get out of your email campaign? If you want to increase sales, think about how to achieve this. Will you make special offers designed to appeal to specific groups of customers? Do you want to invite customers to an exclusive shopping evening?

Call to action

Include a call to action in every email you send. For example you could invite customers to download discount vouchers, purchase a discounted product online, or agree to attend an event.

One of the key elements of an email marketing campaign is outlining straight forward action. Outline exactly what you want the recipients of your message to do, and design it straight forward for the recipient to follow the path.Avoid using too many links or offers, and use straight forward links and make sure that they know what they can expect when they click through. For example: "Click here for a 25% discount on your next trip"

Links

Make sure you have links to your website so customers can find out more about individual offers. By monitoring customer click-throughs you will be able to measure your campaign’s success.

    Subject line

The subject line has a major influence on whether recipients open and read emails. Keep it short and avoid using CAPS, exclamation marks or words like ‘free’.

      Design

Make sure your design works! An HTML design will make your email look more professional, but if you don’t get it right, it will fail to render correctly across all inboxes or will get caught in spam filters. If indoubt, try using the free templates provided by email marketing solutions such as dotMailer.

Your email marketing strategy as a whole must be an integrate part of the overall marketing strategy. Similarly, the creation of your email marketing campaign should reflect your corporate design.

      Targeting

Targeting will ensure your email marketing sends the right content to the right people at the right time. By tailoring email content to different customer groups, you will significantly increase your chances of success.

        Experiment

Find out what works. Consider doing some split testing, by sending slight variations on your email to different customer groups. For example, find out what happens if you change the sender’s name from male to female, or use a different subject header, or send the same email at different times.

          Deliverability

Believe it or not, the main obstacle you will face is getting your email into your customers’ inbox! ISPs delete billions of emails each day. Make sure you choose an Email Service Provider with good deliverability rates.

            Measurement

Measurement is the key to future success. By finding out how many emails were delivered and opened, and which links customers clicked on within the email, you can fine-tune your next campaign.
              Email Marketing

Address the Name of Recipients in Email Campaigns

If possible, you should personalize your marketing mails to greet and address the name of recipients.Often, you will use the first name only, but for some campaigns the last name will be more appropriate.

Avoid spam indicators like $$$ Signs in Email Marketing Campaigns

The "$$$" would represent the spam email which most people don't like. Try to avoid in your email marketing campaigns.

              Avoid Email Marketing in Holidays

In holidays, people are likely away from their computers and not check their email regularly. The amount of email received on their return is so much that there are chances that the most important messages will be deleted in a rush without a second look.

Avoid Mistyped Addresses by retyping the address

There are number of people who can’t avoid mistyping their email addresses on the form. To avoid this error, consider using the retyping option on the form so they get the second chance to fix it. Even though, this consequences the reduction in the number of mistyped emails but also it is more time consuming which might result in less new subscriber.

              Email Marketing

Write Your Name in the From: Line for Email Campaigns

To attract the trust of people, it is suggested that you write your name in the From: field of all email marketing messages you send since people won’t read emails from unknown email addresses like mailer@mail.copyltd.com.

Use Your Brand in the Subject

Outlining your brand name in the From: line of your email marketing messages is important to make sure the recipients recognize it and are comfortable with opening your email. The Subject: is another place where you can make use of your brand. Incorporate it in your Subject to spark their trust, comfort, interest as well as maximising the open rate of your newsletter.
